These as mentioned in previous comments are boys. My son is pretty tiny. Hes 11 and wearing size 10/12 pants. I bought the medium and they fit snug, ina good way. They dont feel like they are yoo loose and are comfortable.

It seems most of the bad reviews for this product are because it was originally mislabeled online as men's, not because it's actually a bad product. However, they've since corrected it to boys'. One thing that SportChek often fails to do is provide sizing information online, so I'll provide a bit of that. I bought the M size for my son, and printed on the underwear is M is 10-12, 132-147 cm. My son is a little under 9 years old, 133 cm, 68 lbs, and this underwear fits him, with some room to grow. He likes the feel of the polyester. I think M would be too small for an average 12 year-old boy.
