Excellent performance

Several multi day backpacking trips have gone very well with these new shoes. I’ve had two prior versions of this shoe and this is by far the past. Design change over the toes leads to less rub than I had on models three and four, and I suspect will hold up the membrane better with less where stress points. Feel very stable platform highly recommend.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Very comfortable, straightforward shoe

After my Timberland's wore out, I bought these. They feel almost like sneakers. Great on the trail. Have used them for about 12 miles so far and they're really comfortable. Easy to lace up.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great everyday boot with a couple of opportunities

I’ve been very happy with the fit, comfort, and durability of the X Ultra 5 Mid GTX. I wear these boots for everyday use, and so far they have held up very well while remaining comfortable throughout the day. There are two improvements I’d like to see from Salomon. First, I wish Salomon offered a selection of orthopedic or higher-support insoles specifically designed to fit their shoes and boots. Finding an aftermarket orthopedic insole that fits properly without changing the intended fit of the boot can be difficult. Second, I think the boot could benefit from additional support on the inside of the foot and ankle. The outboard side has a midfoot webbing lace loop that does a good job of pulling the boot securely around the foot. I would like to see that feature duplicated on the inboard side. I believe having the lacing system pull evenly from both sides would provide noticeably better midfoot and ankle support. Overall, it’s a comfortable, durable boot that has performed very well for everyday use. With those two changes, particularly the additional inboard lace support, it would be an even better boot.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Not bad, but not great

After hiking Mount Borah, I was disappointed and pleased with these shoes. I replaced my original x ultras from 6 years ago and was very sad doing so after all the hikes I did with them. The good - these shoes are very capable, the fit is good, they have great grip, they are fairly comfortable even before breaking in. They also breath a lot better than my originals. The bad - the metal hooks for the laces on the top are starting to pull out of the fabric, the gore tex did not keep my feet dry during rainy weather on the mountain. They were actually soaked and on the descent my toes kept getting rubbed so much so that my toe nails were bruised afterwards, but it was weird because it was only on my right foot. Overall, I love the shoes for what they are, they look amazing, they are comfortable, and they grip well. I think maybe my expectation is based on a quality that no longer exists amongst most shoe manufacturers.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Overall pleased. Minor discomfort. Cheap feel

Bought this boot to summit pikes peak about a month ago. Was looking for something light, protective, and durable. This boot was all of these things. Overall comfort wasn't that great. I was only able to wear the boot two times before the hike. So didn't get to break it in much. I will take some fault in that. The arch support was basically non existent. And foot felt loose in there. Boot is the right size but didn't so called "hug" my foot very well and felt a little "cheap" when I first put it on. Not sure how else to explain it. Doesn't feel super secure around the ankle even for a mid. Hoping it gets better with time as I break it in.

No, I do not recommend this product.
