Sport Chek is teaming up with Goodwill to host “Second Shot”, a sporting goods take back event offered at four Sport Chek locations over four weekends. Bring us your gently used sports gear and receive a Sport Chek promo card in return. Trade-ins are discretionary and subject to the following guidelines*.

  • Large pieces of exercise equipment (e.g., exercise bikes, treadmills, free-standing basketball nets). 
  • Life jackets, kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards.
  • Climbing gear (e.g., ropes and harnesses).
  • Camping equipment

  • Items must be in a resalable and good working condition, without any visible signs of damage or abuse.
  • Items must be clean and free from mould, mildew, and dirt.
  • Items must be no more than 5 years old.
  • Items being traded in should generally have an original retail value of $40 or more. 
  • Select sporting goods, footwear, and equipment will be accepted (limited to categories sold at Sport Chek). Please see the Prohibited Items tab and the Promo Card Amounts tab for more information on what is and is not accepted.
  • Items must be from name/recognizable brands. Knock-offs, generic brands, and counterfeits will not be accepted.

SPORTING GOODS CONDITION REQUIREMENTS

Sporting goods must be free from major damage or defects affecting their functionality or appearance. To prioritize the safety of individuals, we strictly prohibit the drop off of sporting items that are broken or have the potential to cause harm when used.

General

Bags: zippers must work, and handles must be in good working order.

Footwear: must be clean and show minimal signs of wear. The soles should have sufficient tread remaining.

Protective Equipment: no rips or cracks, and all straps must be intact.

Summer Sports

Baseball & Softball Bats: must meet current certification BBCOR, USSSA, USA, ASA. Bats must not have dents or cracks.

Baseball Gloves: laces and webbing must be intact. No tears.

Tennis, Badminton, & Squash Racquets: must be strung and have no cracks in the frame.

Pickleball Racquets: must have no cracks.

Golf Clubs: must not have dents, cracks, deep scratches in paint, rust, or broken shafts.

Volleyball, Football, & Soccer Balls: the outer cover should be intact without any significant damage or tears. The stitching should be secure and not coming undone.

Trekking Poles: no cracks. Straps must be securely attached and not ripped. 

Bicycle: the frame should be free from any major damage or cracks. The brakes, gears, and chain should be in good working order without any issues.

Scooters: no major dents or cracks, and the wheels must have minimal wear. The handlebars and brakes must be in good working order.

Roller Blades & Inline Skates: no rips or tears, and the wheels must show minimal wear. The closure system must be in working order. If present, the brake system must be operational.

Winter Sports

Hockey Sticks: no cracks in the shaft or blade.

Lacrosse Sticks: no cracks and must be intact.

Skates: tongues and eyelets must not have any tears and be intact. The blade holder must not have any cracks, and the blade itself must have a minimum of ½ inch remaining.

Figure Skates: tongues and eyelets must not have any tears and be intact. The blade must be securely attached and have a minimum of ½ inch remaining.

Skis, Snowboards, & Boots: must have indemnified bindings. All components must be intact, and straps must be in working order. No cracks.

Ski Poles: no cracks. Straps must be securely attached and not ripped. 

Snowshoes: all components must be intact, and straps must be in working order. No cracks.

Other

Weights: free from any major damage or cracks. The weight markings must be clear and legible.
