Unstable and Too Soft

Works great for intervals and anything below half marathon. Used in the Sydney marathon and had issues. I’m quad dominant. That course is hilly and the roads are canted (sloping side to side), so the soft cushioning resulted in a lot of excess motion and the need to stabilize - this created a lot of additional fatigue. Also, I had the worst pain in the ball of my right foot starting at mile 15 - it felt like I had a rod putting extreme pressure in that spot, and as soon as I took the shoes off the pain went away. Never felt this in any shoes prior to the AP4’s. I’ve since worn the same pair on tempo runs and on the track and did not feel that same pain. Overall, I like the AP4 for shorter distances, just wouldn’t use it again in a marathon.

Fast, but be careful of fit around achilles

I love the shoes, but only after I modified them. The fit around the achilles absolutely shredded my skin and left me bleeding after the first couple of runs. I’ve never experienced anything like it with a shoe before. I physically cut a 1.5 cm (1/2 in) piece of the achilles area and I now love the shoe. I shouldn’t need to do this and I know I’m not the only one who feels this discomfort and gets blisters and bleeding in this area. Go search Reddit and you’ll see this is quite common. Like I said, I have a regular foot and ankle, literally never had an issue like this before. I also recommend adding sawtooth laces with a little extra length for runners knot. I love the shoe now but I laugh every time I put them on knowing I had to hack them up like this.
