Product Details

Simplified and refreshed. Altra built the Escalante 4 as a nod to the fan-favorite Escalante 1.5, with FootShape fit, greater flexibility, and a lighter weight. Tackle fast training runs, daily walks, or everyday errands in this streamlined and versatile road-mile destroyer. It’s got an engineered knit upper for a more sock-like and forgiving fit, with a knit tongue, just like the original Escalante. They evolved the rubber midsole for a lighter weight and more flexibility so you can feel connected to the road. A new footbed feels more like the iconic Escalante 1.5 and 2.0, with the same Altra EGO™ midsole foam for responsiveness and comfort. Move the way you were designed to with a roomy toe box to help your toes move freely and zero drop. How did we pack so much comfort and style into such a simple shoe? Lace it up, take it out, and see for yourself!

  • With Altra’s FootShape fit, you get plenty of room to help your toes move freely, with a secure midfoot..

  • Built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on.

  • Connect with the ground and stay comfortable with unique Altra EGO™ midsole foam.

  • An InnerFlex™ midsole is composed of grid-like grooves designed to provide flexibility and movement.

  • FootPod™ technology in the outsole supports your foot’s flexibility and helps the shoe move naturally with your body’s movement, so you can interact with your environment.

  • This product received the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) Seal of Acceptance, awarded to products found by the Association to promote good foot health.

    Love these shoes!

This is my first time wearing Altras and I love them. It has helped some with knee pain. I have 2 pairs and alternate wearing them daily. The only thing I wish was different is the tongue. The tongue came partly unstitched on my first pair and it was hard to get it to stay flat. They took them back and my current ones are fine but I wish they would stitch the tongue on the sides or have something to help hold it in place. It is constantly moving to the side and also occasionally rolls under on the sides when I’m putting them on.

I bought 2 pairs of these and loved them. My heal pain went away. I walk at least a mile a day and with in just a couple of month there are holes in the heel fabric inside the shoe. Was disappointed they didn’t last longer. I keep trying to find other shoes with a wide toe box that like…. so frustrated.

Used this mainly for the gym (weight training) and did not do alot of running with them when I purchased but within 6months tread was nearly all but worn out. Very unfortunate as I loved the zero drop, wide toe box fit

These were my first no-drop wide-toe box shoes, and I wasn't sure what to expect, especially because they have a lot less padding than shoes I am used to, but I love them. I think they're surprisingly comfortable and very durable. They've got just enough cushion. I walk more than I run, though.

I have been wearing Altras from the very early days; the Torin 2s. Ever since they got bought out, the width, durability, and quality of the shoes have declined drastically. 100 miles in these and only walking in them, and the treads are so worn down. The heel and mid sole is narrow in comparison to the 3.

This is at least my third pair of Escalantes, and I get more disappointed each time. What I love: the upper is very light and flexible. Not so much: I got my most recent pair in March this year and just noticed today that both heels are wearing through already. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve shimmied them off vs untying and carefully removing (due to how quickly my last pair wore through). Despite how comfortable these shoes are, they are just not worth how quickly they wear out. I switched tennis shoe brands for the first time in years today. I’ll be excited to come back when the heel cap design improves. Do not recommend (feel the heel when trying on, where the firmness ends, the fabric will fray and the heel cap will start to rub and irritate your ankle).

I had a previous version of Excalante and loved it so I bought the 4. The tongue is so flimsy it is hard to get my foot into the shoe without having to straighten the tongue after my foot is in.

The shows laces do not stay tied. I have almost tripped because of it. This should be a simple thing. Why does this not get tested?
