    My new favorite trail model

I like a little more cushion in my trail shoes and I've ran in SEVERAL models from Altra, most recently the Olympus 275 which had too much cushion and was too wide for me so thought I'd give these a try as I needed a do it all shoe for a trail running trip in Sicily. As others have noted, they were comfortable right out of the box, and I probably put 60 miles on them before our trip, where I then put another 75 miles on them and 13k feet of climbing over 10 days. I typically run in Utah, where we are spoiled by buff trails, but in Sicily the terrain was highly technical and rough lava rock across a variety of terrain. The traction was incredible, and I only have one noticeable scuff on the toe of one shoe. Lots of uneven foot placement and I didn't have any irritation with the insole, no blisters and no wear in the heels (which is often a problem for me). I have run them for a few miles on pavement and didn't hate them there either, which sometimes I dread in trail shoes. Lastly, if you know Altra, laces are always changing - but these ones are good, the right length and they stay tied in a double knot. I'll be coming back to this shoe over and over as long as they don't tweak the model too much!

So comfortable right out of the box. Great traction and they have the right amount of padding. Got a lot of compliments on these shoes too. Love the wide toe box and equally supportive fit.

Love the roomy toe box, minimal heel to toe drop, and cushy yet not too squishy feel. I’ve run and hiked several miles and these great from the first step. I typically wear a 9. 5 women’s running shoe and that worked will for this pair as well.

These were for my wife. She stated, they are well made, solid shoe, and are my second pair.

Good for feet with pain in toe pad

I get a lot of nerve pain in my toe pad making it really hard to run. Its been affecting me more and more even with regular walking. I did a lot of research on shoes for my pain issues: low drop, wide tow and thick soles were recommended which brought me to Altra! I tried the Wild 3+ for hiking, running and trail running, I think a 4mm drop. First trail run today 3. 5 mile with no pain at all. Ive also tried a couple other styles of Altra shoe but these Wild 3+ have been most comfortable. The altra escalante did wonders for my posture (a weirdly unexpected plus) but too thin in the sole to get rid of toe nerve pain. The altra Torin 8 also felt good on my toe pad but is giving me heal blisters, will have to wear them in a bit. Anyway, highly recommend the Wild 3+, completely comfortable. Im really excited to be able to run again and walk without pain.

First time trying these and they were perfect straight out of the box. No break in period needed. Love the vibram mega grip and the toe bumper for added protection. Shoe laces are perfect length too. Lately other brands have been giving shorter laces. Also love that these are 4mm drop! I can't do zero drop shoes, but I need the wide toe box. The 4mm is perfect. Please keep this style around and make other shoes that are not zero drop!

I am an avid trail runner, all seasons. . I no longer do ultras but still go out for 15-20 mile trail runs on rooty, rocky, wet, muddy, steep trails in NH. With the Vibram lugs this has become my go to running shoe. I have an earlier iteration of the Wild without the Vibram and had mentioned in an earlier review that this shoe would be perfect with the burly-er sole, and VOILA, here it is! Perfect 4mm drop for me, and improved toe reinforcements. Thank you Altra for making a real deal trail running shoe for those who prefer a shoe that isn't totally zero drop! Love the black/grey combo. . . I'd love to see less "girly" light colors and more grrrr color combos.

I’ve been searching for a solid golfing shoe with a genuine wide toe box, and it turns out this trail hiking shoe absolutely nails it. The Fit: The signature wide toe box is a game-changer on the course, letting my toes splay naturally and engage fully during my swing. The Feel: The 4mm drop feels incredibly stable and provides a great, natural stance. Performance: Even though it’s designed for the trails, the grip is fantastic on turf and provides excellent traction through every turn. I liked these so much that I immediately ordered a second pair in a different color. My only wish? I really hope they release a fully waterproof version of this model soon—it would make it the ultimate winter golf option. Highly recommended if you want trail-tested comfort and stability on the golf course.
