Product Details

Mountain biking is a demanding sport -— compromises and shortcuts when it comes to gear are never a good idea. The 4Forty is built to withstand the rigors of a trail-riding life; with generous ventilation, the comfort of Float Fit and built-in Sweat Guide, extended rear coverage, a full hard shell, adjustable visor, and integrated MIPS protection. Boasting the comfort, protection and broadly capable features of helmets costing twice as much, the 4Forty is a bantamweight, all-conditions, all-kinds-of-trail champion packing a heavyweight value.

  • GOGGLEGUIDE™ Adaptable visor system accommodates both goggles and glasses and works with or without the visor attached.

  • NO-TWIST TRI-GLIDES™ Quick-adjust fasteners that help keep straps flat and properly positioned

  • CPSC Bicycle

  • MIPS®-EQUIPPED MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System, which is a leading slip-plane technology inside the helmet designed to reduce rotational forces that can result from certain impacts.

  • FLOAT FIT™ A minimalist, lightweight fit system with an easy-to-turn rubber overmolded dial for adjustments (integrated with MIPS).

  • SWEAT GUIDE™ Sweat Guide pad design pulls moisture away from the brow pad and away from eyewear.

  • Fusion In-Mold polycarbonate shell — A process pioneered by Bell bonds the helmet's outer shell to the EPS foam liner to create a sturdier helmet.

  • 15 vents

  • S: 52-56 cm M: 55-59 cm L: 58-62 cm 380 grams (size M)

Bell Is Still The Best

I used to mtb years ago &, back then, Bell helmets were the gold standard in bike helmets, as well as for several other sport disciplines & motorcycling as well. I'm getting back into mtb, so I reviewed/researched several helmets. Quite frankly, I was a bit surprised that more retailers not only didn't offer a wider range of Bell helmets, most only offered one! And if I wanted to stay with Bell, I was also restricted as to model, colour, etc. Long story short - the Bell 4Forty MIPS was everything good about Bell that I remembered. It's light, fully adaptable to your head size, well vented &, although not cheap, I feel it's well worth the price. My only quibble is with the visor. For some reason, Bell decided not to fix the visor in place, but to allow it to move. Well, where I live it's quite windy & the visor kept popping up, an annoying distraction I don't need when I ride. I solved the problem with a piece of gorilla tape. Aside from that, & the dearth of retail offerings re: model & colour, I'm quite pleased with my new helmet. I would recommend this helmet to anyone.
