Warm Pant love from a Woven Pant II lover
7 months ago
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a couple pairs of the Black Mesa Woven Pant II's and love love love them. The fit is perfect and the feel is great. My favorite pants. So I bought these Black Mesa Warm Pants to have a pair that could be for colder climates and days. Black Mesa Warm Pant - the Woven Pant II's warm twin. This is my first impression, upon wearing out of the bag just after arrival at my doorstep for a couple of hours, with no test of real wear time, but I think it will still be good info to have - info I would have liked to have had in the product description. I figured they would be virtually the same everything except the lining which isn't really described, but it had to be something to be warmer. And they mostly are the same. I could see that both back pockets have snaps in the online pictures, compared to just the left one of the Woven Pant II. With the thin tight flap, I don't think either really need a snap at all, but the extra security option is welcome. The overall fit is great, true to sizing, and mostly similar. The differences. The waist is perhaps just a touch tighter than the Woven Pant II, and there is a single snap, instead of a sturdy button. I was wearing the Warm Pant without a belt at first, and if I bent over/sat down, I would sometimes pop the snap, but after putting a belt on, that didn't happen. I look back and see there is a picture of the waist snap, but I was looking at the black color and you can't really tell in black. It would be a nice bullet point to identify both as what they have, button or snap, but I would have bought them to try anyway. I always wear a belt on the go, so not a problem for me, but I really prefer the sturdy waist button to a snap, and this snap is a bit small and not really sturdy enough for a single waist snap. If they would have used two snaps in a vertical line to seal the waist, perhaps this snap would be perfect. I am betting the waist tightness difference is just that the older pants are worn in. The Warm Pant also does not have the extra D-ring loop above the back right pocket, and a single loop in the center rear instead of the double loop. The front right unzipped pocket of the Warm Pant does not have the extra little pocket inside the pocket. I like that little extra pocket, but it is fine without. It still has the second zippered pocket behind the front pocket. The Warm Pant is just a touch more relaxed/spacious in the leg, and that is fine, perhaps unnoticeable to others - both labeled "regular fit" and the same size. The "warm" is a thin fleecelike coating. It will be interesting to see how this thin fleecelike inside warm coating wears, and if it delaminates at all. I was expecting more of a wicklike material for the warmth variation, but surely the fleece feel is ultra comfortable dry, and I am curious how it handles sweat on hikes. It looks and feels wonderful. I have just had some fleece grow those little balls with age, and that could be annoying, but maybe these won't. It is very thin, but it really does give you a warmth that might get rid of the need for long underwear on some days. I really like these pants, and might even buy a second pair in a couple days after wearing them out and about for a longer test drive.

Fabric at the ankles used prematurely because of the friction of the boots.
