Practical pants..but fit weird

I purchased these pants for an Alaskan cruise next summer. They arrived yesterday and I just tried them on. I purchased them in large. I found them to be an unusual fit. They fit nicely at my waist and stomach but then they became loose and bunchy at my bum and thigh areas. They are a bit too long also. They are definitely not designed for any kind of a fashion look,I don't reallyfind them flattering. They are however very warm and I'm hoping very suitable for the cold outdoors. The material is kind of stiff but hopefully after a wash or two it will soften up.
