Dakine Status Roller 42L + Bag

Considering this bag comes in slightly under the maximum Canadian airlines' sizing for carry-on bags (basically in every measurement), it holds an astounding amount of stuff. I am notoriously a heavy packer so I rarely fly carry-on unless it's just a single night trip. Somehow this bag held everything I needed for a three night trip across the country -- including a dressier outfit for a special event that included a sportcoat and dress shoes. Between the way the interior is structured and the outside pockets, it's got loads of space. Fit perfectly into a Porter overhead (they're not immense) and was easy to lug around the airport and car rental place. Lots of grab handles, making it easy to fling around, too. For reference, on this trip, I fit in two pairs of shoes, four pairs of underwear & socks, three t-shirts, two pairs of pants, a pair of shorts, a long-sleeved shirt, a flannel shirt, a dress shirt, tie and sportcoat, a spare belt and toiletries. No compression packing cubes required, no using the expansion zipper required. And on the way home, I still had room to fit in a small piece of art that we picked up on our travels, too. I tried out three carry-on rollers before settling on this one. It was the cheapest, one of the nicest looking options, and now has proven itself as the most spacious, too. Highly recommend!
