great purifier with one huge design flaw

Note: I also have a Geopress and love it. However, I took off one star due to the Ultrapress not having some sort of retention strap for the twist off cap the way the Geopress does - you lose the cap in the woods, and you are out of luck. Drop the cap in the river when you’re scooping up water - out of luck. Now, to be fair, Grayl does say to only ‘crack’ the cap open when pressing, but you do need to take it off when drinking water…. add a way to prevent loss, and this purifier is 5 stars. Or retroactively create one for past purchasers, also a 5 star. But since staying hydrated is important when living off grid, on a remote hike/camp, etc. , I’d say its crucial to make sure the cap doesn’t fall and get lost, and Grayl puts that responsibility on the owner. If you stop on a narrow trail, or a not-so-level spot, for a drink, or for a short lunch/snack, you need to use two hands - one to drink from the Ultrapress, and the second one to hold the cap. Drop it because you lost momentary balance? Set it down so you can have a snack in your other hand and the wind blows it down a rocky surface?

This bottle takes cheap plastic water bottles, tap fountains at the jobsite, or stale liquid from old WW2 buildings and makes it into a no-brainer. I never have to worry, I just attach it to my backpack and go about my day. The only thing I would do to take this review down a notch, though not worth a star. Is that the cap does not have an attachment for retainment. My bigger Grayl does come like that, I considered 3D printing something for my needs. All it needs is an attachment point for some paracord.

We use this when we travel anywhere, even domestically, and want to fill water bottles from sink faucet. The water tastes great and has no “chlorine” taste to it like most water does, which is one way I know it’s working! It works well, but does leave a little residual water in the unfiltered canister no matter how much I push down. Not a big deal I just discard it when finished filling bottles. Wish I would have bought a bigger one. Definitely still considering it. Highly recommend.

I bought my UltraPress Purifier for overlanding and hiking. But now I also use it at home. I am on a well and my water is “safe” but has a ton of minerals that do not taste good. I have a whole house filtration system and another filter on my spigot. The water still isn’t tasty. I filtered it with the UltraPress Purifier and it is a game changer! It tastes sooo good! You also do not get that weird filter taste. I 10/10 recommend. I not only would recommend it. I already have to all the people on my well.

I just purchased an Ultrapress to do in a Search and Rescue 24 hour pack. I pack water, but you never know, and the orange one will not get lost in the dusk or gloom. . . I hope. It pairs perfectly with a funnel bag and a 450ml cup. . . and does not take up too much room. Works fantastic for some quick cold mountain stream water. . . . purified!
