Keen Men's Hightrail Mid Waterproof Hiking Shoes

Purchased for my son and as soon as he put them on he said they’re very comfortable. Keen is an excellent choice.

Good shoes for long walks around the city on pavement and concrete. Good for walks on trails. Yet to try them hiking ups and downs to any degree. Happy to have water resistance for the winter where I live, which is our rainy season. Sizing and width are suiting me well.

I moved from the Keen Koven as my daily local walk in the woods. The terrain is mostly groomed trails with hills and some side trails. I have been dealing with Plantar Fasciitis so I tried these based on the cushion and lightness and for the most part they are great in this situation. I also have a new pair of Solomon X Ultra 5 for more rugged and bad weather so I box in the Keen’s use. Pros: They are light and comfortable right out of the box. They offer great cushion and are not clunky, almost more of a running shoe feel. Stable and grippy for groomed trails. Water proof for early morning use in wet ground. Cons: They lack the support and stability needed for rough terrain or if carrying a heavier load. Water will get in at tongue (noticeable when washing down). The heel rise which helps with walking comfort and speed results in added toe area pressure which causes toe slip on roots and wood bridges. Very weird this last one. Summary: If you are looking for a comfortable and light boot for day walks in moderate terrain, these are great. If you are doing backpacking or tackling harder terrain, I would recommend a more rugged boot. Too new so no comment or durability, but based on construction and near daily use, I suspect they will not be around for years, and that is ok. They are a decent priced boot that will protect my feet on my daily walk in woods.

This is tough to leave a mediocre review on these boots for me. I love everything Keen for work so I bought these for a hiking trip. They look great and feel great on up hill climbs and flat ground. But on declines the higher heel makes your feet slide even more forward causing your toes to curl in the toe of the shoe. I have tightened the laces as tight as I can and the boots fit my feet great. It’s just on the down hill portions that they aren’t working for me.

I’ve been wearing Keens for years, shoes, sandals, boots, and have appreciated the fit and quality. So it was a no brainer to look to Keens for a trip to Alaska this Summer. I wanted something a little more than a hiking “shoe” and it had to be water proof-they say it rains a lot. The minute I got them on I knew I made the right decision; very comfortable with good support, and good looking , they will serve well as nice casual every day shoes.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These Keen hiking boots are wonderful! Straight out of the box they feel broken in and not tough on my feet. I did get the mens style as I wanted the ankle support and they definitely delivered. Waterproof, comfortable, and surprisingly breathable these are a great addition to my hiking boots collection.
