These aren't exactly the shoe you'd expect for someone paralyzed from mid chest down. Finding shoes can be an exhaustive search. I used to wear wrestling shoes because they are lightweight & not much larger than my foot in general. Even then, some brands wouldn't work because of the toe box (my big toe knuckle would rub against the top creating redness). I was wearing heavy basketball shoes (4.5lbs) that were 3 sizes too big to prevent skin breakdowns.
Family members wear these & mentioned the comfort. So I figured I give them a try for 2 reasons; their weight and durability. I ordered 2 pairs, Granite and Black, in 10.5 regular (half size bigger to accomodate for the edema I get).
I am pleasantly pleased to report that after wearing for a full week, there were no signs of skin redness anywhere. I also love how my foot slides into the heel-cup and stays there (when I get out my car in regular shoes, my heels slip out & I'm shoeless).

I've used the Merrill Moab for 10 years. I wore them on a rim to rim hike across the Grand Canyon. And they're my normal day to day shoe. For serious hiking through the woods, I switch to a heavier backpacking boot, because I prefer the extra support, but Merrill is my go-to for a lightweight boot.

I'm on my 7th pair. Best boot ever! Comfortable, feel secure, great traction. Most important as i wear them at work, flexible. These are quite simply the best boots I've ever worn.

Always been my favorite hiker boot. Merrill seems to run bigger by half a size. I wear 12 in most shoes, and 11.5 (US). This time I found the "granite color" Moab 3! And I freaking dig these boots.
