Zero ankle support and insoles are cheap foam. No insulation or shock dampening. Also, not insulated well at all. You can tell Merrel has cut corners with these.

good for walking dogs in the city

I bought these boots to walk my dogs in a northern ontario city which gets alot of snow. The grips are not good enough for icy streets so really did not live up to what I had hoped for. They are wide so if you have narrow feet like me you will need insoles. The other point that I noticed which is strange is that they smell like cat urine when when you take them off. I thought I had walked in cat spray or urine but it's a weird smell coming from the inside of the boots . Yes my socks and feet are clean , it's some strange smell from the boots.

I think these boots were meant for people with wide feet. The boot is very sturdy..but for me Theses boots were too restrictive in movement . Too heavy for me to use for long. Walks or hikes.
