Difficult sizing

The sizing of these jackets is very confusing. I normally wear an XL, but I was swimming in it, probably could have gone with medium but ended up with a large that is still giant on me when the insert is in place - I’m currently 34 weeks pregnant. Otherwise it is warm and waterproof. Would be good if it had a two way zipper when the insert is not in, due to length it can be hard to bend over or sit fully zipped. Buttons on the side help with this a bit.
