Osprey Fairview Travel Pack - 40 L

I have had this backpack for 8 years, I bought it for traveling by rail on week long trips to Scotland to make my life easier by having my hands free for dealing with ticket barriers through London underground. I have been blown away with how much this bag has made my trips easier. I'm used to carrying backpacks to and from work everyday but the way the straps takes the weight off your back and puts it round your hips means it feels so much lighter and you are able to manoeuvre with ease. It fits on every overhead luggage rack I've ever used, including Ryanair! It's sturdy as anything and can fit a surprising amount of stuff in it. I'm only just now looking at a bigger size of backpack as now I have a 5 year old to take on my travels and she is eating up my packing space! We still managed a trip up this week with 5 days worth of clothes, toiletries and travel entertainment with just this backpack and a little pack for her but her soft toy nearly pushed us past it's limits. I will still be using this for solo trips. Buy it, you won't regret it!

This is a great pack for both car and airline travel. I pack smart with packing compressors packing cubes but I wouldn’t say I pack light and I had plenty of space. The waist belt allows me to comfortably carry this pack through the airport. The straps stow easily and it fits in the overhead bin.

We borrowed two of these from friends to travel to Scotland this summer. They were a perfect size and fit what we needed. They are very comfortable to wear. We will be buying two for travel.

The adjustable straps make it a perfect companion for your back if you’re like me and can never find a perfect fit in packs. The straps can be hidden with a zippable cover that is stowed away in a pocket at the bottom of the pack as well. My favorite part of this bag is that the hip belt is durable and comfortable so it makes carrying it easy.

We used compression cubes and stuff sacks to maximize space, and we very satisfied with the 40L size for 2 weeks of "lightweight" travel.

I managed to pack 3 long pants, 9 tops all with long sleeves 4 pairs of compression socks, 1 set of pj's, 1 pair of sandals plus toiletries, and some other odds and ends for my 5 week treck through Europe. For reference I am 5'6, 120 pound, 70 year old and the pack was very comfortable.
