Awesome Jacket!

I absolutely love this jacket. OR has really hit it out of the park with the freewheel MTB gear! This jacket acts like a hard shell windbreaker but is soft and breathes so well. It moves so nicely. Absolutely Amazing jacket

I use this for riding in NWA, we get very cold winters here and it's handles the weather like a champ. I don't get overheated and stay comfortable throughout the day. Would definitely recommend this to a cold weather rider.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Still winter in CO! Luckily I was able to escape snowy Steamboat for a couple days to hit the desert trails in Fruita, CO and test out some of the new Outdoor Research MTB gear (which they did send me for free to try out). I really only purchase stretch gear so I was pumped for the athletic stretch of the new Outdoor Research Freewheel Half Zip Hoodie. I'm a bulkier guy but the hoodie fit is excellent and form fitting for my frame (Sz Large). I don't typically go for the pullover style, as I prefer full zip, but I love the fit of this jacket. Most importantly I never felt restricted even during the most technical features. The partial face covering feature of the zip up is clutch for the desert winds. Overall it performed great from a wind protection standpoint. Something I would have liked to have seen but wasn't a deal breaker is more storage. There is a single zip pocket on the left side chest. Some quick access pockets on the lumbar region would have been amazing. Overall the Freewheel Hoodie is awesome and without a doubt going to be my go-to light jacket for all activities, not just MTB! I have used it for various other winter activities in Steamboat Springs, CO on warmer days and have been nothing short of impressed by its mobility, warmth, and wind resistance.

Great In-between Season Jacket

I love this jacket so far. The fit is perfect for me. This has been my go-to activity jacket. I have been running and biking in it. I have also used it as a good mid layer under my shell here in rainy Seattle. It doesn't have a ton of insulation, but for the warmer days it is great as a breathable do everything jacket. The fabric is very durable, and I don't feel like I will have any future issues with it. Feels like I could take a couple good falls off my bike on it and I would most likely break myself before the jacket. I will say one downside is that in windy conditions that hood does end up catching the wind. Make sure that you tuck it behind your back if you are commuting.
ProsBreathable, Durable, Good Size/Fit

Yes, I recommend this product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Disclaimer: Outdoor Research gave me this free product to try. Winter riding in the PNW can be a real challenge when it comes to finding the right gear to wear. You either sweat to death in a jacket, or get soaked without one. I gave the OR Freewheel Half-zip Hoodie a try in these challenging conditions. Fit: I'm 5'10, 165lbs and went with a size large. A medium would have been fine too, but I wanted extra room to layer. That said the fitted nature of the jacket kept it in place, while its stretchy material allowed for unencumbered movement. The outer material has a soft, quality feel that did a great job at blocking the wind and rain. Its not a noisy hard shell like some other brands. The inner material is a thin honeycomb weave of soft, almost fleece like fabric that feels good on your skin, while also being warm and breathable. Its a really nice combination of materials. The sleeves are plenty long and the drop tail gave enough coverage to keep my backside dry, even when fully stretched out on the bike. A single zipper pocket is located on the left breast, and is roomy enough to fit a phone, wallet or snacks. When wearing, the fit, comfort and performance means it basically "disappears" when riding, its very easy to get along with! While i definitely enjoy the jacket, there are a few cons to be aware of: - the fitted nature and the short length of the zipper means you cant put on/remove the jacket with a helmet on very easily. -no vents -only one pocket -hood too small to fully cover a helmet (fits/works well under the helmet though) These are all minor complaints and I do like the minimalist approach to the jacket. Conclusion: The Half-zip hoodie not only performs well on the bike, it is also good looking and my new go to for outdoor events with iffy weather! I wore it at a rainy trail workparty and utilized the hood most the time. The water beaded right off and I didnt feel the wind even though it was a bit breezy. It kept me warm and dry and I didnt overheat or feel constrained while cutting in new trail. Definitely a win!
