K.Ann! What do wear inside as a layer? You probably don’t understand Canadian winter and snow pants. You need a thermo underlayer ( buy a cheap long underpants at Walmart/Costco). If you just wear these and a pair of underwear then you get cold. I’ve been wearing the same brand for skiing and shovelling snow at -20 for 15 years and they make good warm winter clothes for reasonable prices.

They do not help retain heat. They cut the wind but my legs were still quite cold even in moderate Manitoba winter temperatures.
