Inconsistent sizing.

The shorts are well made but sooo small. I picked a size medium and it's the size of my hand. Half of my bum is out.
What's even more unusual is I bought a rash guard but the same brand in a size small (I usually buy medium) and it's baggy on me.
I truly don't understand how a medium is this small and a small is that large.
