Even better than the X Ultra

I have hiked with X Ultra GTX for more than 6 years. They fit my arch and hold up well. I was concerned when the X Ultra 5 GTX replaced the previous version, but found these to be an improvement on a shoe that I already loved.

Bought them recently and am currently on my first trip to Alaska which s why I got them. They are truly great hiking shoes. Light, comfortable, boa laces are super convenient. Grip is aggressive and keeps me very sure footed.

Toe hard inner case will pin your toes on the downhill. Mid sole is tight around the toe knuckles. I've never had to do a wide version of a shoe but would recommend with this product. It might be your only chance. Not sure what Salomon is doing with their product lately but has been disappointed in last 2 purchases

I was ready to add a fresh pair to my collection since I have worn some of the shine off my older ones. Plus this gives me another color choice. I wear these to shop, casual occasions or church, but I'm ready for action if the need arises. I use my others for the trails, fishing and yard work. They are perfect for me. Comfortable, yet durable, and stylish.

Great Experience Over the Years

I have been wearing X Ultra 5 Gore -Tex models for over 10 years. They are an excellent option for me since I have a narrow foot. The only issue I had with any of the pairs was wear down of the heel tread on each pair. The current pair I have was purchased in March. I've got over 100 miles on them over mixed terrain and, so far, the tread is holding. Hopefully that will continue. This latest pair has the new Matryx exterior material. Seems much more robust than the previous but there is an annoying popping sound when toe off on the right shoe. Other reviewers have remarked on this. Thought it would stop as the shoes break in but it hasn't. No impact on comfort or performance of the shoe. I ordered a half size up as I have on every pair of this shoe I have owned and the fit is great no matter the terrain I am on.

very rugged design for tough trails, waterproof yet remains very breathable, they were also quick to break in, I got it one day before my trip and they feel so comfy to walk in right away

Too stiff and creates hotspots

I have done five hikes now and the last couple I have had to tape up my foot with mole skin trying to break them in.I change my socks to try to avoid the hotspot and much worse is the rubbing on my heels which has created blisters, including other parts of my foot which I never get from other shoes, I am an avid hiker and was hoping to use these for Whitney Peak yet I had to stick with my oboz.
