Salomon Men's X Ultra 5 GORE-TEX Hiking Shoes

I can't recommend this shoe as it has none of the features I liked about my past Salomon shoes. 1. Fit is not good, tight on sides, long on toe. Upper of shoe somewhat cuts into my foot when the toe bends. 2. As the shoe rolls from heel to toe there is a slap down when the toe section touches. My previous shoes always had a smooth roll as the sole was contoured a bit like a rocker. The slap down leads to aches in my shin. 3. Minimal arch support. Seems as if they attempt to provide arch support by making the sides of the shoe so narrow it is difficult to my foot into the shoe. 4. Not a fan of the quick lace system. Can't adjust to have toe section a bit looser, as the laces all slip in their eyelet supports (as opposed to being a bit tight & thus hold their position in traditional lace systems) and all sections of lacing will tension based on overall tightness.

Bought for my Alaska trip. great fit. may go 0.5 more than usual if you want a slightly looser fit. great colors and durability.

I use these daily as a home inspector in Florida. Great grip and stability on uneven surfaces and roofs. The waterproofing works—my feet stay dry even in wet grass and rain. Comfortable for all-day use, though a bit firmer and warm due to Gore-Tex. Overall, very reliable for work.

After wearing an array of hiking and trainers I tired a pair of Salomans a few years ago. They did me well in Asia Australia and the deserts of the US southwest. That first pair is still in good shape but have now been relegated to the garden and around the house outside. Went for long walk in the new ones last night. The start of another long and healthy relationship for sure.

My husband loves these. He says they're durable and super comfortable.
