Solid hiking shoe, easy to break in

Very comfortable and with minimal breaking-in handled some very rocky long treks out of the gate comfortably.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great Boot Until it Wasn't

I’ve been a Salomon customer since 2023 and have had a great experience with my Outpulse high-top trail shoes. When my fiancé and I needed new hiking boots for Mt. Fuji, the X Ultra 5 seemed like the perfect choice: lightweight, comfortable, supportive, and waterproof. The boots performed exceptionally well on the ascent. Unfortunately, the descent exposed a significant design issue. Mt. Fuji has extensive sections of loose volcanic rock. During the descent, small stones worked their way through the opening at the base of the tongue and became trapped between the outer mesh and inner waterproof membrane. I did not notice the issue during the hike, but the trapped debris caused discomfort and contributed to blisters in unusual locations. After the hike, I inspected and cleaned the boots and found multiple rocks lodged between the outer material and the waterproof membrane. I then examined my fiancé’s pair and found the same issue. Because the debris had entered the space between the layers, it was extremely difficult to remove and raised concerns about the boots’ long-term durability and performance. I ultimately returned the boots. This was especially disappointing because, aside from this issue, they were some of the best hiking boots I’ve ever worn. They were exceptionally comfortable, lightweight, supportive, and waterproof. I would absolutely consider buying the X Ultra 5 again if this issue were addressed. I wanted to highlight it for anyone who regularly hikes in loose rock or volcanic terrain.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Comfortable, Good Grip, Premium Construction.

I really liked these! The build quality is great and I took it on a pretty gruelling hike in the Adirondacks and it held up very well. Regular Dirt trails felt really soft and comfortable to walk on, and the impact from boulder fields and other rocks were reduced pretty well. I will say that for the grip this is very good, but on steep rock especially when its wet I did notice it slipped ever so slightly near the toe box, but with proper technique you would be perfectly fine the grip is more than enough but I think there might be better on the market for steep rock climbing, but the grip on dirt and wood and other mixed surfaces was exceptional. Gore Tex did its job properly when I sank these things in wet mud by accident but nothing got through the boot which was pretty impressive, and breathability is decent too on the tongue of the shoe.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Broke when I needed it most

I bought these for a hiking trip in the Rockies. During a bit of technical terrain, one of the lace clasps completely sheared off. This makes the boots seem to be made of cheap material, especially the metal. I made due the rest of the way down, but with much less support. This is a shame since the rest of the shoe seemed really nice otherwise.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Been wearing these for 1 month, broken in enough to know these are another typical pair of Salomon shoes/boots that fit very well, are exceedingly comfortable and supportive. There's a reason I stick with Salomon

Yes, I recommend this product.
