I recommend spraying it generously and being outside in the sun for at least an hour. The UV index at the time was 2, so relatively low and it still lightened my hair slightly. The second day, which was a few days later, it definitely lifted my hair a shade. My hair is naturally medium blonde to dark blonde. The very time I used this product in my hair last spring, it did turn it slightly orangey until the second application. A great non-harsh alternative to dyeing or highlighting your hair!
