It is not mountain fleece, fabric is more a knitted fleece material. Sweater is a bit dressier than mountain fleece and nicely made.

The pockets… why?

The material pills badly; this is a replacement for a Wind River sweater from Marks that was pretty much identical. They do make great work sweaters as an educator; warm but being full zip means they aren’t too hot if worn open in a building full of people. Definitely -2 stars because the pockets aren’t sewn in; they’re completely loose except for the opening and flappy and only held by a small strip of material. Clearly a cost-cutting measure between the wind river one I bought about six years ago and this one.
No, I do not recommend this product.
