YETI Ranchero 27L Backpack

I bought this bag for work as I walk or take public transit and need something with good storage and weather resistant. I wanted something that would take me from home to work to gym, keeping my computer protected and dry. Lots of room for all my stuff, lots of compartments to store cables and gear. Although the water bottle compartments are on the outside, they take up some of the inner space, limiting storage. I do wish it would come in more colours.

The Yeti Ranchero 27L backpack brings a refreshing mix of style, durability, and well-thought-out design upgrades that make it a standout in the everyday carry and adventure gear space. First off, it looks incredible—the sleek design and premium materials make it one of those bags you constantly want to reach for. It’s more than just a functional carry; it feels like a refined accessory that complements any setting. Speaking of materials, durability is top-notch, as expected from Yeti. The upgraded zippers are noticeably smoother and sturdier compared to Mystery Ranch backpacks, providing a seamless experience when accessing your gear. Another welcomed improvement is the luggage pass-through, which makes traveling with this bag far more convenient. One of the biggest upgrades, however, is the ability for the bag to stand on its own—a surprisingly useful feature that enhances accessibility and ease of use, especially when working in different environments. While packed with great features, the Ranchero 27L does come with a few compromises. It’s heavier than comparable backpacks, which might be noticeable if you prefer a lighter everyday carry. Additionally, the back panel feels a bit stiff, something to keep in mind for those seeking maximum comfort. Another aspect to consider is its rigid shape—even when empty, the bag retains its form, making it bulkier than a more compressible alternative. Despite its minor drawbacks, the Yeti Ranchero 27L is a step up from the Mystery Ranch Assault 24, thanks to its refined design, improved zippers, smart features, and sturdy build.

The backpack is exactly what I needed for my hiking trips.

Great accessibility and fantastic quality! Amazing design

I’ve been daily driving a Mystery Ranch 3 day Assault Pack since 2012. It has been packed out, travelling all over the Western Hemisphere and Europe with me. It’s been used minimally loaded at home for over a decade. I got this to compare the two, and try a less obviously tactical pack for urban daily use. The Ranchero has all the things I love about my 3DAP,except the outright volume,but it melts into the urban landscape. It feels like I fill it a bit more, but 27L is still plenty to hold my stuff, while leaving room for a healthy trip to the grocery store or mall. I haven’t used outside of the city yet, but I think it’s gonna perform exactly like a 27L MR3DAP, so I’m optimistic.

It’s solid, and stylish. Looks like it’ll server the intended urban trekking purpose.
