Just an Average Runner

Mixed feelings about this runner. I’m a one hour daily walker and occasional walk/jogger. I usually buy Saucony, Jazz, but the last pair’s tread wore out in less than four months, so I thought I would try Asics, recalling excellent reviews of the gel excite 7 and 8 a while back. Unfortunately the gel excite 9s have a reputation for getting holes in the fabric toe area - I can understand why given how thin the mesh appears. Learning this after purchasing, I decided to keep them anyway as they initially felt comfortable and the treads look more durable. I just wore them on my first walk and my left heel is red from the back rubbing. I also noticed my left foot wasn’t as comfortable - the shoe felt narrow on that foot. I do have slightly wide feet, but wide width shoes are generally too big and I normally wear regular fit. If you have wider feet, these shoes won’t fit well. I’ll update this review in a few months regarding the durability of the mesh upper. With all the options out there, I wouldn’t purchase this model again unless it was revamped. Pay a little more and get something better. Pros: durable looking tread, colour, style, on sale. (about 90$). Cons: high probability of holes, too narrow for a regular fit, heel rubs.

Poor quality

Light and comfortable but after wearing them only to the gym for about 10 months a hole has developed on top of the left shoe and I can see three more spots wearing out . I have been an Asics fan for decades but the quality of this pair of shoes is very disappointing. I have the Gel Excite 8 which I wear more often but it is not falling apart.

I've always bought this model in the same size and proceeded to do the same with this model and am disappointed by the sizing. I am stuck with a pair that is too big and the back of the ankle is so padded at the top that the bottom of the heel is loose.

Comfy and roomy

Very light and comfortable shoe. The back of the shoe that rests on your heel is very padded. I bought my usual size in other ASICS shoes I’ve owned and it fits well, if not a little roomy no need to size up.
