I'm back for another pair!

I'm back for another pair of these because the soles on my X ULTRA 04 shoes are finally wearing thin after several years of use. Other than the soles wearing thin, those shoes are still in great shape and I use them fairly hard. When I recieved the ULTRA 5GTX shoes in the mail, I was super impressed with the speed of delivery and the product itself. I like the way the shoes fit and the style of them. They appear to be even more durarbly constructed.

They worked great on my trip in Shenandoah National park, main problem was slight rubbing on my little toes but that was also when my feet were wet.

These are my go to shoes.

I do a lot of outdoor work and having gore tex shoes makes a big difference. Obviously cant prevent any moisture penetration at the ankle and above, but for puddles, splashes and a bit of rain, they work great and are very comfortable without being heavy.

Love the shoe, not a fan of the quicklaces

I had previous versions of these shoes and as with the previous models, the shoes are great. Very comfortable in long hiking trips, great traction, nice water resistance and light weight. The only major problem is the quicklace sytem. It has consitently been the failure point in previous versions of this shoe so I'm prepared to the fact that in all likelihood the laces will stop holding tight and possibly break altogether in the next couple of years. I really wish there was a version with regular laces.

Stability shoe leaning more towards a hiker

High stability, rigid sole, low cushion. Takes a week or so to break in. Built to last a long time in challenging terrain. Only time will tell how long the waterproofing lasts.

Solomon designed a manufacturing defect into the cheap lacing plastic system that breaks easily when cinching. Check out other reviews with the same problem BEFORE you buy!
